Overview
Professional Accounting (Part-Time Online) is the part-time delivery option of Fanshawe College's Ontario College Graduate Certificate in accounting, offered entirely online for students who already hold a college diploma or university degree. The curriculum equates to the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Preparatory (PREP) course sequence and covers financial accounting, management accounting, budgeting, financial statement analysis, taxation and business law, using case studies drawn from real-world business scenarios. Students build proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software used across the profession. Because the courses are spread out on a part-time schedule, students can complete the certificate while continuing to work or manage other commitments, rather than following the compressed full-time online sequence. The program is intended for university and college graduates who want a slower-paced, flexible path toward the technical accounting knowledge required to enter the CPA Professional Education Program, or toward accounting, bookkeeping and financial-analysis positions. Guest speakers from the accounting field supplement the coursework throughout the program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires one of: a two- or three-year college diploma or a degree; an acceptable combination of related work experience and post-secondary education, as judged by the College; or five years of work experience in the accounting field judged equivalent by the College. Applicants relying on work experience may be asked to submit a resume and cover letter detailing that experience. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency by one of: a Grade 12 College- or University-stream English credit from an Ontario Secondary School, or equivalent, depending on the programme's own admission requirements; TOEFL iBT 88; IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0; CAEL overall 70 with no band below 60; PTE Academic minimum 59; Cambridge English 176 (no skill below 169); an in-house Fanshawe English Language Evaluation of at least 75% in every section; or, for Fanshawe ESL4/GAP5 students, 80% in Level 9 or 75% in Level 10. Test results must be under two years old.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
