Overview
Over four semesters, you will progressively develop skills and knowledge in fitness assessment and exercise programming, nutrition, health promotion, leadership and self-development, business planning and lifestyle consulting. Field Placement opportunities will provide you with workplace experience supervised by trained professionals and leaders in the fitness industry. Placements can be tailored to your specific career goals or future university plans. For example, students have requested placements in hospitals, corporate sites, fitness facilities, chiropractic or physiotherapy settings, and non-profit organizations such as Diabetes Canada and Osteoporosis Canada. Class sizes are small and your learning environments feature the latest equipment, technology and facilities, including the state-of-the-art Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, located on Fleming College campus grounds.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) including Grade 12 College-level (C) English, with the majority of courses at College (C) or Open (O) level. Grade 12 Healthy Active Living Education, Grade 12 University-level Exercise Science, and Grade 11 College Mathematics are recommended but not required. Applicants 19 or older without an OSSD may sit the Skillsmarker assessment. Before placement, admitted students must meet non-academic field requirements that may include a criminal reference check and current First Aid/CPR-C certification. No programme-specific language scores are set, so Fleming College's general English proficiency requirement applies: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no section below 20, PTE Academic 46, or Duolingo English Test 105.
