General Carpenter (403A) Apprenticeship Level 1 is a Skilled Trades Ontario apprenticeship delivered in person at Fleming College's Sutherland Campus in Peterborough. The in-school component is split into Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced sessions of 240 hours each, combined with on-the-job work experience with a sponsoring employer; Level 1 runs eight weeks. Instruction is provided by tradespeople with practical carpentry experience and covers core skills for renovation and new-construction work. As a Red Seal trade, registered apprentices can qualify for government-funded grants and incentives. Applicants must hold an Ontario Secondary School Certificate, or Grade 10 equivalent, and already be registered apprentices with Skilled Trades Ontario with employer sponsorship; Skilled Trades Ontario determines eligibility and issues invitations to attend, and applications are not made through ontariocolleges.ca. The program is open to domestic apprentices only; it is not available to international students.
