Overview

The General Carpenter Apprenticeship trains registered apprentices to construct, renovate, and repair residential, commercial, and industrial structures. In-school instruction covers blueprint reading, building code interpretation, framing techniques, and safe operation of hand and power tools. The in-school component totals 1,050 hours of college instruction delivered at Niagara College's Welland campus, alongside on-the-job training completed with a sponsoring employer as a signed apprentice. The overall delivery length of the apprenticeship is 3 years, and graduates receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or Grade 12 equivalency, together with employment in the trade under a registered training agreement. New apprentices can begin their in-school training in the Fall or Winter term.
