Overview

Students explore visual communication, interactive media, audio production, storytelling, and image manipulation and photography, building skills relevant across a range of media career options. The certificate is designed to prepare students to move into diploma and advanced diploma media programs.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This Ontario College Certificate requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, with Grade 12 English at the C or U level; students who begin in the January (winter) term must also attend classes over the summer months from May to August. Applicants 19 or older without an OSSD may apply under mature-student status and meet the English requirement through the George Brown Admissions Assessment or academic upgrading. The programme page carries no English-proficiency section of its own; applicants schooled outside Ontario are held to George Brown's institution-wide English Language Proficiency policy for diploma and certificate programmes, which accepts IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill band, or TOEFL iBT 80 overall with a minimum of 20 in each skill band. The single intake is in January.

Domestic applicants apply through OntarioColleges.ca: for programs starting in Fall 2027 the application opened 26 September 2026, colleges may release offers from 1 November 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, and an offer for a September start must be accepted by 1 May 2027, with the tuition deposit due in June 2027. International applicants apply directly to George Brown and are assessed on a rolling, selective basis until the intake is full; George Brown publishes no fixed international closing date, though for the 2026-27 cycle the September, January and May intakes opened 6 October 2025, 2 February 2026 and 1 June 2026 respectively. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
