Program details

Overview

This full-time certificate functions as an intensive academic pathway for non-native English speakers aiming to build stronger language competence and fluency. Coursework is geared toward writing, communication and critical thinking abilities needed for further study conducted in English.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This is Humber's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) pathway: all applicants must submit an English Language Placement test result from Humber's approved list to determine their starting level of study, rather than meeting a fixed admission score. Domestic applicants under age 19 must also hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, and a minimum high-beginner level of English is recommended going in. Because the program teaches English proficiency itself, Humber's separate English Language Proficiency Policy (used for direct-entry programs) does not apply here; equivalency for applicants educated outside Canada is assessed on the same country-by-country basis as other Humber programs.

Application Details

Start Date: September, January and May
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected persons) apply via ontariocolleges.ca. For Fall 2027 entry, applications open early October 2026, with Humber offers beginning as early as November 2026. Highly competitive programs use an equal-consideration deadline of 1 February 2027: applications received by then are assessed together with no earlier offers; later applications are reviewed first-come, first-served while space remains. Fall 2027 offer acceptance is due 1 May 2027. International applicants apply directly through the Humber Web Application and are reviewed on a rolling basis, up to one year before their intended start term; no fixed international deadline is published, and applying for a study permit 3-5 months before the start date is recommended. No separate Winter/Spring institution-wide dates are published. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
