The Certificat en anglais langue seconde is a 30-credit undergraduate certificate at Université de Sherbrooke's Faculté des lettres et sciences humaines, aimed at non-anglophone students. The programme helps students master written and spoken English, or refine existing English skills, so they can communicate effectively in everyday and professional situations. Coursework starts with a foundational and intermediate block covering grammar, oral communication, and pronunciation, then moves to an advanced block covering applied grammar, linguistics, composition, translation from French to English, comparative stylistics, literature, intercultural studies, sociolinguistics, advanced writing, public speaking, and business English; entry to advanced-block courses requires passing certain intermediate courses or placement at level 6 (C2) on the faculty's placement test. It is offered under a regular, part-time-only study regime, both on the Sherbrooke campus and at a distance, with admission at the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms.
