Overview

This 90-credit doctoral programme trains researchers in biological sciences through advanced disciplinary study combined with work inside pluridisciplinary research teams oriented toward solving concrete scientific problems. The curriculum pairs standard thesis-based research training with coursework in management and entrepreneurship, preparing graduates for careers in academia, industry, and government. Students conduct original thesis research within INRS's biology-related research centre, with example areas of study spanning infertility and pregnancy, cancer biology, the inflammatory effects of nanoparticles, the impact of environmental chemicals on human biological systems, and the molecular mechanisms of pathogen infection. The programme leads to the degree of Philosophiae doctor (Ph.D.) and is offered on a full-time basis, with admission possible in the fall, winter, or summer term given the flexible scheduling of doctoral admissions. Before being admitted, a candidate must secure the agreement of a research director and have the proposed research topic approved by the programme committee.
