Overview
This 90-credit interdisciplinary doctoral programme is offered by UQAM in association with INRS and six other Quebec universities. It trains researchers to study collective and individual health, and the determinants and consequences of health, from a social-science perspective, drawing on the humanities, social sciences, management sciences, and health sciences. The curriculum comprises 15 credits of mandatory core courses, 9 credits of specialisation courses, and a 66-credit thesis, and it emphasises engagement with practice-based partners such as community organisations, health services, and government bodies alongside sensitivity to varied methodological traditions. Students develop the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries and to translate research findings into forms usable by partners outside the university. The programme leads to the degree of Philosophiae doctor (Ph.D.) and is offered on a full-time basis, with admission possible in the fall, winter, or summer term.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a master's degree with a thesis in the humanities, social sciences, management sciences, or health sciences, with a minimum cumulative average of 3.2 on 4.3 (or the equivalent); files between 2.8 and 3.2 may be considered by the admissions committee. Candidates holding a bachelor's degree with at least five years of relevant experience and a first-author publication may exceptionally be considered for admission. Applicants who obtained their diploma outside Canada, or in a Canadian province other than Quebec, must have their diploma's equivalence verified before applying.
