This 90-credit doctoral programme develops research expertise in nanoscience, advanced materials, ultrafast photonics, and sustainable energy. Depending on their research focus, students may work on plasma physics, biomedical applications of photonics, the characterisation of matter using advanced lasers, or the synthesis of photocatalysts for converting solar energy into hydrogen fuel. The nominal length of the programme is twelve trimesters, or four academic years, and students are required to maintain full-time status for the first six consecutive trimesters after enrolling. The programme leads to the degree of Philosophiae doctor (Ph.D.), with admission possible in the fall, winter, or summer term. Before admission, a candidate must demonstrate a research orientation matching the objectives of the host research centre, submit a roughly two-page statement of research motivation, and secure the agreement of a research director.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.20 / 4.3
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a master's degree in energy and materials science or in any other relevant discipline or field, with prior training aligned with the programme's requirements and a minimum cumulative average of 3.2 on 4.3 (or the equivalent). Candidates must demonstrate a research orientation consistent with the host research centre's objectives, a sufficient knowledge of spoken and written French, and must submit a roughly two-page statement demonstrating their research motivation and the fit between their academic background and the intended thesis topic, together with the agreement of a research director.
