Trauma and Crisis Intervention Associate Certificate is a certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy programme offered by Justice Institute of British Columbia in New Westminster, Canada. The programme runs for 1 year, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 2,600 per total for local students.
This associate certificate centres on managing traumatic events and protecting the emotional health and safety of those affected. Coursework draws on a range of theories and practices for crisis response, covering psychological first aid, one-on-one defusing, group debriefing sessions, planning to prevent vicarious trauma, and Critical Incident Stress Management techniques. Teaching stresses inclusive, responsive, trauma-informed approaches for supporting people from diverse backgrounds who are in crisis, alongside attention to a practitioner's own emotional well-being. Graduates come away able to offer emotional support to people who have been through a traumatic event and to guide others through crisis states.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This is an open-enrollment certificate programme offered by JIBC's Health, Wellness and Public Safety area of study. The programme page states there are no formal admission requirements: the courses and the certificate are open to anyone, regardless of prior academic background, credential, or work experience in trauma, crisis intervention, or counselling. No minimum grade, prerequisite course, or prior credential is specified. The page does not set an English or French language-proficiency requirement or test score, and no portfolio, interview, age minimum, or criminal record check is described. Applicants who need English-language documentation for other purposes should refer to JIBC's general admission requirements for international students, published on the institution's own admissions pages.
Application Details
Application Deadline:JIBC runs two admission models: Continuous Intake programs (most certificates and micro-credentials) accept and review applications year-round with no fixed deadline, while Scheduled Intake programs (its bachelor's degrees, diplomas, and EMS/paramedic and law-enforcement programs) publish a specific opening and closing date for each cohort. For example the Winter 2027 cohort (starting 4 January 2027) generally opens in August 2026 and closes between early November and early December 2026, and the Spring/Summer 2027 cohort (starting 3 May 2027) opens in December 2026 and closes between early March and early April 2027. Fall 2027 dates for most Scheduled Intake programs were not yet published at the time of research. JIBC does not publish a separate international deadline; international applicants use the same program-specific dates and must also budget time for study-permit processing. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
