Overview
The Health Care Aide Certificate is a provincially approved, one-year (two-term) program that prepares students to work as frontline care providers across healthcare settings, including seniors' care, acute care, and home support. Delivered in person at Keyano College, the program combines classroom instruction, laboratory simulations, and three supervised clinical placements in licensed healthcare settings, where students apply classroom knowledge under the guidance of experienced professionals. Graduates become eligible to write the provincial Health Care Aide exam required for employment in continuing care in Alberta. Admission requires a minimum grade in English 20-1/20-2 or English 30-1/30-2 (or a Canadian jurisdiction equivalent), or a passing score on the College Entrance Assessment, along with demonstrated digital literacy skills such as using email and navigating online platforms. Laboratory and materials fees of $35 to $135 per course apply in addition to tuition.
