The Applied Early Learning & Child Care Certificate at Keyano College prepares students for work in the childcare field through an apprenticeship-style program that combines classroom-based theoretical learning with on-the-job education at childcare centres. The curriculum covers child development, guiding children's behaviour, learning through play, creative experiences for young children, language and literacy in early childhood, and planning for play, delivered across three terms in four-week sessions that alternate with Work Integrated Learning placements. Students are responsible for securing and arranging their own childcare-centre workplace for the practicum component. Graduates gain the skills and credentials needed to work in early learning and child care settings.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 50% in English 30-1 or 65% in English 30-2. As a requirement for admission into the Work Integrated Learning component, students must secure employment at a childcare centre; students are responsible for finding and arranging their own workplace, and placements are not provided. Mature applicants with less than a high school diploma are encouraged to apply and are considered individually based on an interview with Early Learning & Child Care staff and the College Entrance Assessment. Before starting classes, applicants must complete a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Care First Aid, and a Child and Youth Intervention Check.
