Overview
Ce programme de deux ans mène à la profession d'opticien selon le champ de pratique défini par l'Ordre des opticiens de l'Ontario. Après les principes fondamentaux de l'optique — terminologie ophtalmique, anatomie de l'œil, tests et interprétation des ordonnances —, l'étudiant maîtrise la consultation en lunetterie et en contactologie, la fabrication, l'ajustement et la réparation de lunettes ainsi que l'accompagnement des patients en basse vision. Un minimum de 1 000 heures de stage est prévu, dont au moins 250 heures au Centre de la vue LUMIRIS de La Cité et 750 heures en stage coop rémunéré. La Cité est la seule à offrir cette formation en français en Ontario.

Admission Requirements: Domestic entry — Ontario: OSSD or a Canadian equivalent, or at 19 or over satisfactory scores of 250 in reading comprehension and 275 in numeracy; you also need Mathematics MAP4C, MCR3U or MCF3M and one of Biology (SBI3C or SBI3U), Chemistry (SCH3U or SCH4C) or Physics (SPH3U or SPH4C). Quebec: Mathematics TS 064406 or SN 065406 plus one science from Biology (ST 055404, STE 058404 or Biologie 534), Chemistry 051504 or Physics 053504. New Brunswick: Mathematics 30321B plus one of Biology 53411, Chemistry 52311 or Physics 51411. International applicants must either hold a secondary-school diploma or baccalaureate, or be 19 or over, or be in their final secondary year and supply proof of enrolment. La Cité states that admission is competitive because places are limited and is never guaranteed, even when every requirement is met.
