Diploma in Optician

This two-year diploma covers ocular health and ocular pathology, refraction testing, optical technology and equipment, and filling prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses. Students learn to fit eyewear for a range of clients and build a foundation in business and retail management for the optical and optometry field. The program combines classroom lectures, laboratory sessions and clinical practicum placements. Students who have completed SAIT's Ophthalmic and Optometric Assisting certificate may enter the diploma with reduced study time. Delivery is offered in person at Main Campus or blended, combining Main Campus and online instruction. Graduates receive a SAIT Optician diploma and are prepared for roles in optical retail stores, ophthalmic or optometrist clinics, and other medical settings where eyewear and contact lenses are dispensed.
