Program details
Overview
Langara's Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance diploma has been discontinued and replaced by a new Occupational Health & Safety certificate, but its two-year, six-term structure combined evening classes — Tuesday through Friday, in person — with a curriculum spanning environmental, procedural, and occupational safety law, industrial processes, contaminated-site and WHMIS protocols, investigation and risk-assessment methods, emergency management, and occupational hygiene, alongside an Occupational First Aid certification and business communication training. The program was recognized by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals and admitted a single September cohort each year. Its capstone term had students form groups to research a specific industry, carry out a risk assessment, design an occupational health and safety training program for it, and present their findings orally, mirroring the kind of applied project a safety officer would run on the job.
