Overview
Industrial Mechanic Millwright Apprenticeship is a Loyalist College certificate program that trains apprentices to install, maintain, and repair industrial machinery used in manufacturing, construction, energy, and mining. The apprenticeship takes approximately 8,000 hours, or about four years, to complete, combining 7,280 hours of on-the-job work experience with 720 hours of in-school training delivered across three levels of 240 hours each. In-school training is currently offered through day release, at 7.5 hours per week for 32 weeks per level; block release is not currently available. Because most training takes place on the job, apprentices earn a paycheque from their employer or sponsor while they learn, and most in-class training costs are paid by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD).
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This program is open only to registered apprentices. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have completed Grade 12 or the equivalent (GED or ACE). High school courses in math, science, and English are recommended.
