Program details

Overview

The Bachelor of Music at MacEwan University, offered through the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications, focuses on contemporary popular music across genres including jazz, rock, pop, metal, blues, soul, country, electronica, and hip hop. Instruction covers performing, songwriting, and recording, and the program includes a diploma exit option for students who complete part of the degree. A distinguishing feature of the program is direct access to Bent River Records, described as the only university-run record label in Canada, giving students practical exposure to the recording and music industry alongside academic coursework. The program is intended to prepare graduates for careers as professional musicians, performers, songwriters, and other music industry roles. It suits students who sing, play instruments, write music, or work in recording and are seeking a credential grounded in contemporary popular music rather than solely classical training. Specific details on audition requirements, delivery format, and campus location are addressed through the university's separate admission requirements and program pages rather than the general overview, so applicants should consult that additional material before applying.
