Greek and Roman Studies (PhD)

The PhD in Greek and Roman Studies at McMaster University, offered through McMaster's School of Graduate Studies, prepares candidates for an academic career in Classical Studies. Graduates develop the autonomy, critical judgment, and disciplinary knowledge needed to conduct original scholarly research suitable for publication, and the ability to teach across Greek and Latin literature and Classical civilization. Research areas include Greek and Roman civilization, Classical art and archaeology, Greek and Latin literature, and Classical history. The program is completed on a full-time basis over a nominal length of four years, with typical entry in September, and culminates in a dissertation defended before an examination committee. Students are required to acquire a reading knowledge of two modern languages during the program. The credential awarded is a Doctor of Philosophy in Greek and Roman Studies.
