Anthropology (MA)

Anthropology at McMaster studies humans, past and present, combining archaeological, physical and cultural approaches with the aim of building a fuller understanding of human and social life. Research areas include archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and the anthropology of culture, health and disease. Applicants are normally expected to have completed an undergraduate degree in anthropology, or a degree with a significant anthropology component, and must have clearly developed intellectual and research interests; MA applicants should have at least tentatively defined ideas for a thesis research project before applying, and typically work closely with a faculty advisor whose research aligns with their own interests. The program is a full-time, thesis-based degree normally completed in one to two years, with a typical entry term of September.
