Overview
The PhD in Regional and Territorial Development is a 90-credit doctoral programme offered jointly by the Université du Québec à Rimouski and the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. It trains researchers to study regional and territorial development questions from an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on the humanities, social sciences, urban studies, and management. Most of the 90 credits are earned through directed research, culminating in a written doctoral thesis that is defended before an examination committee. Students complete their original research under the supervision of a thesis director affiliated with one of the partner institutions. The programme is delivered in person at UQAC and admits new students in the Fall term. It is intended for holders of a relevant master's degree who wish to pursue advanced research and an academic or professional career related to regional and territorial development.

Minimum GPA:3.20 / 4.3
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a master's degree in regional development, regional studies, one of the human sciences (anthropology, demography, economics, geography, history, psychology, political science, sociology, social work), urban sciences (urban studies, planning, urbanism), or management, obtained with a cumulative average of at least 3.2 on 4.3. Adequate spoken and written French and reading ability in English are required. Applicants coming from another field of study may be required to complete qualifying or preparatory coursework. Applicants who obtained their diploma outside Quebec, after at least eighteen years of schooling, with adequate research training or experience, may also apply.
