The Neuroscience PhD at McMaster University, known as the Neuroscience Graduate Program (MiNDS), is a research-intensive, interdisciplinary doctoral program drawing faculty from the Faculties of Science, Health Sciences, Engineering and Humanities. It is designed to cover the broad spectrum of neuroscience rather than a single sub-discipline. Current research within the program spans areas including aging, brain-body interactions, learning and memory, motor control and rehabilitation, neural development, neural signal processing, neuroendocrinology, neuroimmunology, neuropsychiatric and neurological disease, plasticity and regeneration, and sensory systems, with applications to conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, autism, depression and addiction. Admission requires a Master's degree in neuroscience or a related discipline. The program is offered full-time and is structured as a thesis-based degree completed in up to four years, with a typical intake each September. Students benefit from a wide range of faculty expertise and a resource-rich research environment spanning multiple faculties at McMaster.

Admission Requirements: Admission requires a Master's degree in neuroscience or a related discipline. International applicants whose first language is not English must meet McMaster's graduate English proficiency requirement, for example IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 86 overall with a minimum of 20 per component (for tests taken before 21 January 2026).
