This four-year apprenticeship prepares students to perform preventative maintenance, diagnose faults, and repair vehicles and light trucks. Training covers engines, transmissions, steering systems, brake systems, drive trains, vehicle suspensions, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, and wheel alignments. The program combines on-the-job training with an employer with technical training at the college, requiring a minimum of 1,530 hours of on-the-job training and nine weeks of technical training each year across four twelve-month periods. Admission requires first securing employment with an employer willing to sponsor the apprenticeship, then completing an Apprenticeship Application and Contract through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training system. Graduates receive a Journeyperson Certificate and are qualified to work as automotive service technicians, with eligibility for interprovincial Red Seal certification.
