Offered by Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, Canada, BA/BS in Physics is a bachelor's degree in Physics & Astronomy programme. The programme runs for 4 years. Tuition for international students is CAD 22,500 per year (CAD 6,750 per year for local students).
Physics at Memorial University is a four-year Bachelor of Science program, offered as a major or honours degree on the St. John's campus. It covers motion, energy, and matter through an experimentally grounded curriculum spanning Newtonian mechanics, relativity, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics, taught through a mix of experiments, fieldwork, theory, and computer simulation. Topics explored by faculty and students range from protein structures to black holes and physical oceanography. As with other Science majors at Memorial, the Physics major is formally declared after a set amount of foundational coursework rather than at admission. Joint programs pair Physics with applied mathematics, chemistry, computer science, Earth sciences, or human biosciences, and a minor in applied science with an electrical engineering focus is also available. Many undergraduates take part in ongoing physics research alongside coursework. The program suits students with a strong interest in foundational science who want flexibility before committing to a specific joint pathway, and is oriented toward careers such as medical physicist, meteorologist, or technical consultant.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Physics cannot be chosen as a major at the time of application: students first enter Memorial's Faculty of Science under the university's general admission requirements, which for the B.Sc. route also call for appropriate senior high-school courses in mathematics and a laboratory science. Admission to the major requires completion of 30 credit hours (10 courses), including six credit hours each of critical reading and writing (at least three in English), mathematics, physics, and a second science other than mathematics and physics. No minimum admission average or program-specific English test score is published on this page; applicants whose first language is not English follow Memorial's general proficiency requirements (e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall). University applications are rolling, with priority deadlines of March 1 (Fall), October 1 (Winter) and February 1 (Spring).
Application Details
Start Date:September, January and May
Application Deadline:Memorial University's undergraduate application system opens one year ahead of each semester for the 2027 cycle: for Fall 2027 entry the portal opens 10 September 2026, the priority deadline (also the early-entrance-scholarship deadline) is 1 March 2027, the document deadline is 20 August 2027, and applications finally close 9 September 2027; Winter 2027 entry has a priority deadline of 1 October 2026 and closes 6 January 2027; Spring 2027 entry closes 11 May 2027 with a priority date of 1 February 2027. International applicants use the same direct application to Memorial and are only advised to apply at least 12 weeks before their intended semester starts; no fixed international closing date is published. Late domestic applications are still considered as time, resources and space permit, so admission is effectively rolling past the priority date up to the final close. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
