Overview

This online learning program has been designed to meet the needs of those who wish to pursue a career as an Educational Support or are already working in the field and need to upgrade their qualifications. The provincially-approved curriculum has been designed to develop the aptitudes, knowledge and skills needed to work with, and support children and youth with special needs during their educational experience. Through a carefully designed program of studies that combines theory and hands-on practice in school-based field placements, candidates prepare to work with teachers, and other professionals in meeting a wide-range of exceptional student needs.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Mohawk's program page (shared with the standard Educational Support diploma) requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading or a GED also qualify), including Grade 12 English at the C or U level or equivalent; mature applicants have alternative pathways. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency through one of: TOEFL 560 (83 internet-based), IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, Duolingo 115-120 with no band below 105, or completion of Mohawk's GAS-English for Academic Purposes (478) program. The page also flags that some employment opportunities in the field require certain physical standards to be met as a condition of employment; no separate intensive-variant requirements are published.

Application Details

Start Date: September, January and May
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through Ontario Colleges: for a September start Mohawk's equal-consideration date is 1 February (1 February 2027 for the next fall intake), and for a January start it is 1 June; after either date, files are considered first-come, first-served while seats remain, with permanent residents of Ontario prioritized, then other Canadian residents, then international applicants. International applicants apply via OCAS's International Application Service on a per-intake deadline rather than one annual date: for January 2027 entry, applications opened February 2026 and the submission deadline is 1 November 2026; Mohawk had not yet published a deadline for the September 2027 intake as of this check. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
