Overview
Religious Studies at Mount Allison University is offered as a Bachelor of Arts major (60 credits) or honours (72 credits), with a minor (24 credits) available in any degree. The program studies religious traditions from across the world as they have developed historically and as they continue today, considering the part religion plays in shaping culture, forming values, and motivating human action. Its curriculum is organized into three streams: Eastern traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and East Asian religions; Western traditions, including Judaism, Christianity, and Islam; and religion and culture, which connects to themes such as war and conflict, gender and sexuality, ecology, material culture, and spiritual expression. The Arthur J. Ebbutt Memorial Trust supports scholarships, visiting lecturers, and field trips for upper-year students in the program. Admission Requirements: The Religious Studies page states no admission requirements of its own and defers to Mount Allison's general admissions process (admission-requirements page). Mount Allison reviews the whole applicant: decisions weigh academic record, leadership, commitment, and potential for growth, varying by degree, education level, and country; routes are published for high-school, transfer, CEGEP, IB, Cambridge GCE, mature (22+), and home-schooled applicants. As English is the language of instruction, applicants may be asked to prove proficiency with one of: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0); TOEFL iBT 90 with at least 20 per section (before Jan. 21, 2026) or the redesigned TOEFL at 4.5 overall, 4.5 Writing, 4.0 elsewhere (from that date); PTE Academic 60 (no score below 51); CAEL CE 70 (no part below 60); Cambridge English B2 First/C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 176 (no band below 169); or Duolingo 110 (Comprehension 125, Literacy 120, Conversation 110, Production 95). Three years of English-medium Canadian secondary schooling or 30+ post-secondary English credit hours can also satisfy this; applicants just short of it may get conditional admission via the English Summer Pathway Program. Application Deadline:Mount Allison uses rolling admission with no fixed general deadline: for the 2027-28 (Fall 2027) intake, early admission based on final Grade 11 marks opens 1 October 2026, general admission with mid-year Grade 12 transcripts opens in February 2027, and 1 March 2027 is the deadline to submit all application documents for admission and scholarship consideration. The deadline to accept an offer and pay the registration deposit is 1 May 2027. Bachelor of Music applicants must submit their application package by 1 February 2027, and Fine Arts (BFA/BA) applicants must submit their portfolio by 15 February 2027. International applicants follow the same published dates; Mount Allison does not publish a separate international deadline, so admission remains rolling until programs are full.
