Overview
The Tśilhqot'in Language Fluency Certificate and Diploma are culturally grounded programmes that build learners' proficiency in the Tśilhqot'in language alongside Tśilhqot'in knowledge and cultural content. The curriculum is developed to meet community language standards and covers conversational fluency, grammar, and cultural context through full-time, in-community delivery. The Certificate is a 33-credit, one-year credential; graduates may continue into the 66-credit Diploma for further study. Coursework runs on a Fall-term intake and combines language instruction with land- and community-based learning shaped by Tśilhqot'in Elders and knowledge keepers. The programme prepares graduates to use the language in community, cultural, and workplace settings and to support ongoing language revitalization efforts. It is delivered by Nicola Valley Institute of Technology in partnership with Tśilhqot'in communities and is approved by the relevant community language authorities.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to the Tśilhqot'in Language Fluency Certificate and Diploma requires Grade 12 graduation, Mature Student status, or an assessed equivalent, as stated on the programme page. No IELTS, TOEFL, or other English/French proficiency score is published; NVIT sets language-proficiency requirements per program rather than centrally, and none currently applies to this programme. No interview, portfolio, age requirement, or criminal record check is listed.
