The x̄á'isla Language Fluency Certificate builds learners' proficiency in the Haisla language of the Haisla Nation, developed collaboratively with the community to meet its language-preservation goals. The one-year, 33-credit programme combines conversational language instruction with Haisla knowledge and cultural content, delivered in-community on a full-time basis across the fall, spring, and summer semesters. It reflects the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls to action on Indigenous-language post-secondary programming. Coursework is approved by local language authorities and is designed for learners already connected to Haisla communities who want to strengthen their conversational fluency. Graduates are prepared to use the language in community and cultural settings and to support ongoing revitalization work. The programme is offered by Nicola Valley Institute of Technology and, availability permitting, community members may progress to further language study.
