This certificate in German Language and Germanic Cultures provides rigorous language training focused on communication and the acquisition of basic sociocultural competencies, bringing students to a level sufficient to sit the Goethe Institute certification exam. Students develop written and spoken expression in German alongside exposure to the history, literature, and cultures of German-speaking regions of Europe. It is reserved for applicants whose native language is not German, and all applicants take a mandatory placement test on registration. The 30-credit programme is offered part-time only and normally requires more than two semesters to complete, with individual courses also available in distance, hybrid, or comodal formats. Admission is offered for the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms.
