Overview

The Master of Arts in Sociology – Applied Social Research at Nipissing University trains students to apply social theories and research methodologies to a range of social issues. The programme includes a practicum component that gives students applied research experience alongside coursework in sociological theory and methods. Students complete either a Thesis route, normally two years full-time or up to four years flex-time, or a Major Research Paper route, normally one year full-time or up to three years flex-time. The programme admits new students in the Fall term. Graduates are prepared for doctoral study, applied research roles, and careers in community organizations, government, and social policy that draw on original social research.

Admission Requirements: Applicants require a four-year undergraduate degree (an honours degree with an independent research component is preferred) in an appropriate discipline, with a minimum B standing, plus a sample of written work.
