Overview
The Master of Arts in Anthropology (Thesis) is offered by the Department of Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts at McGill University. It is a research-intensive program covering social anthropology, medical anthropology, the anthropology of religion, archaeology, psychological anthropology, political anthropology, historical anthropology, and political ecology, among other areas. Beyond the general Socio-cultural and Archaeology stream, students may pursue a Development Studies option offered jointly with Geography, History, Political Science, Economics, and Sociology; an Environment option run with the Bieler School of Environment; or a Gender and Women's Studies option. Students collaborate with research centres such as Anthropology for the Ecozoic, the Critical Media Lab, STANDD, CICADA, and I-CAN, and with related units including Social Studies of Medicine and the Institute for the Study of International Development. The program develops writing, analysis, and scientific communication skills through original thesis research.
