Overview
This program delivers the technical-training component of the Red Seal apprenticeship for automotive service technicians, for students already registered and sponsored by an employer through SkilledTradesBC. Training is organized into four levels, each a seven-week block of full-time, in-person instruction at the Campbell River campus, offered across fall, winter and spring intakes; the full technical-training sequence totals 28 weeks and is normally completed over about four years alongside roughly 6,360 hours of paid on-the-job experience, split approximately 80 percent workplace practice under a certified tradesperson and 20 percent classroom instruction. Coursework covers engine, drivetrain and electrical systems, gasoline and diesel engine support systems, steering, suspension and braking control systems, and advanced driver-assistance and electric-vehicle control systems. Applicants who are not yet sponsored can instead complete a foundation program before entering the apprenticeship. The program suits domestic students already working in or sponsored for an automotive service role who need the classroom levels required for Red Seal certification, leading toward careers in repair facilities, dealerships, fleet maintenance, transportation companies or self-employment as a certified automotive service technician.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is restricted to registered apprentices: applicants must be registered as an apprentice with SkilledTradesBC and be employed by a company with at least one qualified journeyperson able to supervise their training. NIC's calendar sets no separate academic grade, language-test score, minimum GPA, portfolio or interview requirement beyond this sponsorship, since technical-training levels build on the apprentice's existing indenture. The programme offers Fall, Winter and Spring intakes and is domestic applicants only. Applicants who previously applied within the last year and want a subsequent level use NIC's Apprentice Training Registration Form instead of a fresh application.
