North Island College offers Trades - Apprenticeship in Electrician: Apprenticeship - Harmonized, a trades - apprenticeship in Trades programme in Courtenay, Canada. The programme runs for 10 weeks, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 1,100 per total for local students.
This program covers the in-school technical-training component of the Red Seal electrician apprenticeship for students already sponsored by a SkilledTradesBC-registered employer. It is organized into four levels of full-time, in-person classroom instruction at the Campbell River campus, each level running ten weeks, with the full sequence normally completed over about four years or more depending on the apprentice's schedule; multiple intakes are offered across fall, winter and spring terms through 2028. As in other harmonized apprenticeships, training combines these classroom levels with on-the-job experience, split roughly 80 percent worksite practice under a certified tradesperson and 20 percent in-class instruction. Course content addresses the installation, maintenance and repair of residential, commercial and industrial electrical systems, building toward the technical and practical skills tested for Interprovincial Red Seal designation. The program is limited to domestic applicants who are already working in and sponsored for the trade, rather than students seeking initial entry. It suits apprentice electricians progressing level by level through their technical training while accumulating the paid workplace hours required for full Red Seal certification.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is restricted to registered apprentices: applicants must be registered as an apprentice with SkilledTradesBC and be employed by a company with at least one qualified journeyperson able to supervise their training. NIC's calendar sets no separate academic grade, language-test score, minimum GPA, portfolio or interview requirement beyond this sponsorship, since the technical-training levels build on the apprentice's existing indenture. Levels run out of the Campbell River campus across Fall (September-November), Winter (February-April) and Spring (May-July) intakes, roughly ten weeks each, and the full apprenticeship typically takes about four years. Applicants who previously applied within the last year and want a subsequent level use NIC's Apprentice Training Registration Form instead of a fresh application. The certificate is domestic applicants only.
