Overview
The Instrumentation and Electrtical Automation Technician Diploma allows you to blend industry best practices and data management with technical expertise for various sectors. You'll gain skills in installing, programming, calibrating, and maintaining instrumentation, logic controllers and electrical systems for industrial automation in manufacturing and heavy industry. This training offers graduates pathways to Red Seal certification in electrical or instrumentation apprenticeship programs, or progression to advanced degrees in electrical engineering.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires C in English 12 (or equivalent, or a successful English assessment) and C in Foundations of Math 11 (or equivalent, or a successful math assessment); Physics 12 or NIC's PHY 060 is recommended but not mandatory. High-school graduation is preferred but not required once the stated prerequisites are otherwise met, and NIC offers a prior-learning assessment route for industry professionals already working in the field. The diploma's calendar entry states no programme-specific language-test score; as an international-eligible programme, applicants who don't meet English proficiency through BC coursework are assessed against North Island College's institution-wide English requirement (for example IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, or an equivalent PTE, CAEL, Duolingo or Cambridge score), per NIC's general admission requirements page. The diploma runs a Fall intake out of Campbell River; no portfolio or interview is required.
