Northern College's College Vocational Certificate Program is a job-readiness and post-secondary-preparation program for students who would not typically qualify for or consider entry into a traditional college program. It supports learners who have completed high school through workplace credits, modified courses, or an Ontario Secondary School Certificate and who face barriers finding meaningful employment or continuing their education. Coursework covers career planning, workplace essential skills, life skills, literacy and numeracy, communication, and basic technology skills, combined with work-experience placements that give students practical exposure to a workplace setting. Students also have the opportunity to earn recognized safety and service certifications, including WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, Ontario SuperHost, and Safe Food Handling, alongside the program's core training. The program runs over two semesters and leads to an Ontario College Certificate on completion. Admission includes an interview and assessment with Learner Services staff to determine fit and readiness for the program before enrolment is confirmed.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Mature students, or students who are 18 years of age, who have graduated from high school with workplace credits, modified courses, and/or an Ontario Secondary School Certificate or equivalent. Applicants must participate in an interview/assessment with Learner Services staff to be recommended into the program.
