Overview

In this course, students will follow the accepted concepts of marketing, current marketing principles/practices, and their applications as functional decision-making management tools. Topics will include all aspects of product/service marketing and management, price determination and pricing strategies, distribution-related strategies, marketing communications strategies (including advertising, personal selling, sales promotions, event marketing and sponsorship, public relations and direct marketing) and non-profit marketing and global marketing. This course builds on the foundation of MR1073 Introduction to Marketing I. Students will continue to examine current Canadian material on marketing and determine strategies for developing new products and services that are consistent with evolving marketing needs and principles of sustainability. Students will apply their knowledge in producing a marketing plan where they will set marketing objectives, develop a marketing mix, along with developing marketing strategies. Budgetary considerations will be taken into account, and evaluation criteria identified. Students will also contribute to the development of pricing strategies and participate in conducting market research to provide information needed to make marketing decisions.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants need an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C or U), or equivalent, obtainable free of charge through the college's Academic Upgrading program. International applicants must also submit proof of a senior high school diploma with documents in English and meet the English-proficiency requirement of IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo 105; applicants from countries where English is the official language may submit alternate proof. Students begin in the shared Business Fundamentals first year, and to remain eligible for the CHRP professional designation on graduation they must earn at least 65% in each of the nine HRPA-required courses and a 70% overall average.

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca; Northern College accepts applications on a rolling basis for most programs right up until a semester begins if space remains, but for its limited-enrollment competitive programs — Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Practical Nursing, Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technology (Wildlife Rehabilitation), Companion Animal Physical Rehabilitation, and Medical Laboratory Technician — February 1, 2027 is the equal-consideration date for Fall 2027 entry, after which remaining seats are offered first-come, first-served or waitlisted. International applicants apply through the OCAS International Application Service and are assessed on a rolling basis; Northern publishes no fixed international application deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
