Program details

Overview

The Criminology Certificate at Northern Lights College is awarded to students who complete ten designated courses, the equivalent of one year of planned first- and second-year criminology coursework (30 credits, 450 hours, over two semesters). It is designed as preparation for entry-level employment and for continued studies in corrections, criminology, criminal justice, forensic studies, and law enforcement at transferring universities and university-colleges, with course-by-course transfer under the BC Transfer Guide. The certificate is offered full-time or part-time at all five NLC campuses with Fall, Winter, and Spring intakes.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants meet the English requirement with a 'C' grade or higher in English 12, English Literature 12, or English First Peoples 12, or ENGL 050/ENGL 099, or an equivalent university-level English course, with the NLC Writing Assessment available for those who fall short. Math requires a 'C' (60%) or higher in Pre-Calculus 11, Principles of Mathematics 11, Foundations of Math 11, or MATH 040, or readiness for MATH 050 via the CCP Math appraisal. International applicants and those educated in French or another language must instead meet NLC's general standard set out in Appendix A (General Academic English Language Proficiency Requirements); the programme page does not publish its own test scores. Once enrolled, students must maintain a 2.00 program Grade Point Average with a 'D' (50%) minimum per course, and the college notes that 'some course options have specific prerequisites' beyond the general entrance criteria. The certificate is offered full-time or part-time at all five NLC locations with Fall, Winter, and Spring intakes.

Application Details

Start Date: Fall, Winter, and Spring
Application Deadline: Northern Lights College uses one admissions calendar for domestic and international applicants alike, applying through EducationPlannerBC or in person. Applications open about eleven months before each intake: 1 October for the following Fall, 1 February for the following Winter, and 1 June for the following Spring. For the 2027 cycle the priority deadline is 30 September 2026 for Winter 2027 entry, 31 January 2027 for Spring 2027 entry, and 31 May 2027 for Fall 2027 entry (dual-credit applicants get until 24 October 2026 and 23 June 2027 respectively), with a tuition deposit due about a month after each priority date. NLC states international applicants already in Canada on a valid visa follow the same domestic deadlines; after the priority date, seats remain open, on a rolling basis, until each term's add/drop date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
