Overview

The Educational Assistant Certificate - Inclusion Support prepares students to support learners with exceptional needs in one-on-one and small group educational settings. The curriculum builds knowledge and interpersonal and practical skills for understanding children's individual needs and providing effective social and instructional accommodations within an inclusive learning environment. The programme combines classroom-based practicum placements with a blend of online coursework and evening and weekend in-person classes, allowing students to continue working while completing the certificate. Students must hold a Standard First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Basic Rescuer) certification before beginning practicum, and a police information check is required before the first practicum placement. The programme is delivered in a blended format in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Graduates are prepared for roles supporting students with exceptional needs within school and community education settings.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a minimum of 60 percent in English 30-2 or 50 percent in English 30-1. A Standard First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (Basic Rescuer) must be presented prior to practicum, and a police information check is required before the first practicum placement.
