Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate - UBCV

Admission Requirements: UBC's Academic Calendar entry for the Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) states that applicants must have obtained their first degree, or be currently in their official third or fourth year of university study. Students whose first language is not English must meet UBC's English proficiency requirements/standards, but the calendar page does not itself publish a specific test or score for this certificate; UBC's institution-wide English Language Admission Standard, which the certificate program's requirement points to, accepts IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 90 overall with Reading 22, Listening 22, Writing 21 and Speaking 21, among other accepted tests. All applicants, especially those without ESL/EFL teaching experience, are strongly advised to volunteer in an ESL setting before enrolling. No portfolio or interview is described. The program offers a 12-credit Coursework Certificate or a 15-credit Certificate with Practicum.
