Overview
The Community Research and Evaluation: Applied Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) provides you with skills in applied research and an understanding of how the social sciences and liberal arts actively contribute to a culturally diverse sustainable society. Developed for the context of the southern interior of B.C., this program includes studies of regional Indigenous cultures and prepares graduates for direct contributions to local and regional issues. You will complete field experience as well as a capstone project that will tie academic studies to relevant local and regional issues. Upon graduation, you will be prepared to work as consultants, social policy researchers and advocates for youth, women, families, minorities and cultural diversity.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Regular applicants have completed B.C. high-school graduation or the equivalent, or are enrolled in Grade 12 now.
Academic requirement: B.C. high-school graduation or the equivalent, including the English entrance requirement.
English: English 12 at a minimum of 70 per cent - a higher bar than most Okanagan College programs - or one of the published English 12 alternatives at that level. An applicant who passed English 12 below 70 per cent can still be admitted on condition of taking Okanagan College Adult Basic Education English 012 alongside their other first-semester courses.
Mature applicants: at least 21 years old and out of full-time high-school study for at least three years. They satisfy the English requirement by completing ENGL 012 alongside their other courses in their first semester of the degree.
Standing in the degree depends on satisfying the English requirement, so it cannot simply be deferred.
International applicants who meet English by test use the College's English 12 (70 per cent) table: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band under 6.0, TOEFL 79 internet-based, CAEL 70, PTE Academic 58 with no communicative skill under 55, or Duolingo 110, with results under two years old.
