This one-year certificate, delivered in a blended format with the first two terms online and the third on-site, trains students to manage or operate an equine breeding facility. Instruction from experienced instructors and veterinary doctors covers modern reproductive techniques including hand breeding, artificial insemination, cooled and frozen semen handling, ultrasound interpretation, and embryo transfer. The program's final term takes place at Olds College's commercial breeding facility, where students gain hands-on experience managing breeding operations and foaling care. It begins with a Fall intake and is described by the college as a unique program in Canada. Graduates gain the practical and technical skills needed for roles in equine reproduction management, breeding farm operations and related positions within the equine industry. Admission follows one of two pathways, either a related diploma or degree, or a set of high school prerequisites combined with relevant work or job-shadowing experience.
