Program details

Overview

The Master of Divinity is a graduate degree preparing students for ordained or lay ministry in a church or parachurch organization. The program totals 81 credit hours, completed in a minimum of three years and up to a maximum of eight, with as many as 39 credits available online. Coursework begins with a foundational core in Old Testament, New Testament, biblical exegesis, Christian history, and theology, followed by applied study in biblical languages, hermeneutics, pastoral care, preaching, and worship. Students complete a supervised, two-year ministry practicum under the mentorship of experienced ministers, working on the job while enrolled. An optional concentration allows focus on areas such as pastoral ministry or chaplaincy. Admission requires a bachelor's degree with a minimum 2.8 GPA, or mature-student status for applicants aged 28 and over with equivalent experience. The degree suits students discerning a call to church or parachurch service who want a broad theological and practical foundation before entering ministry, as well as those wanting to think through how the church's mission applies to their vocational context.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 2.80 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: Applicants need a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent); applicants at least 28 years old without a bachelor's degree may instead apply as mature students by explaining how their life, work, ministry or educational experience is equivalent to a university degree. Regent College's general admission-requirements page, which this program's page refers applicants to, sets the English-language requirement for non-native speakers at TOEFL 4.5, IELTS 6.5 or Duolingo 120 (scores valid for two years), with an exemption for applicants who studied at least four years at a post-secondary institution taught and tested in English. Applicants who fall short of the academic requirement may be admitted on probation, limited to 9 credits and a mandatory non-credit academic-writing course in their first term.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Regent College publishes recommended, not firm, application deadlines that recur annually with no printed cycle year: Canadian applicants are asked to apply by 1 August for September-start (Fall) programmes, 1 December for January-start (Winter) programmes, and 6 February for the May-start MALTS programme, while financial-aid applicants should apply by 1 January. International applicants face earlier recommended dates -- 1 May (Fall), 1 August (Winter) and 10 December (MALTS) -- to leave time for study-permit processing; as of this September 2026 check the Winter-intake international date has already passed for the January 2027 term. Regent states late applications are still welcome and processed as space allows, so admission functions as rolling past these recommended cut-offs rather than a hard close. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
