The Master of Arts in Jewish Studies (non-thesis) is offered by the Department of Jewish Studies in the Faculty of Arts at McGill University, the only department of its kind in Canada. The course-based program builds on undergraduate coursework in Jewish studies, covering Jewish history, Jewish philosophy, Hebrew and Jewish literature, and contemporary North American Jewish life such as education and social activism. With departmental approval, students may take a number of credits outside the department and university, drawing on affiliated faculty at McGill, Concordia, and other Montreal institutions. The program develops skills in literature review, information synthesis, and critical thinking, preparing graduates for further study or professional work. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and English-language proficiency. The program admits students in both the Fall and Winter terms.
