Overview

This diploma deepens knowledge of the sciences via hands-on learning across the lab, the field and the classroom, drawing on environmental economics, leadership, research methods, microbiology, physics and chemistry to address contemporary environmental challenges. Students work in problem-solving teams on interdisciplinary projects during class time and field school, using real-world cases to build skills for tackling social-ecological issues, biodiversity loss and climate change.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 73.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Direct entry is from a Canadian secondary school or comparable high school. Required is Language Arts (English 12) at a minimum of C+ (67%), plus a minimum B (73%) average across three academic Grade 12 courses, which must include one of Pre-Calculus 12, Foundations of Mathematics 12 or Calculus 12, and one of Chemistry 12, Physics 12 or Biology 12 (Anatomy and Physiology 12); applicants should also have completed any two of Chemistry 11, Physics 11 and Biology 11. The programme page defers non-native English speakers to Royal Roads' institution-wide requirement: for first-year undergraduate entry, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum of 20 in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Applicants who do not meet the standard requirements may be considered under flexible admission based on a combination of education, informal learning and real-world experience, with additional documents such as reference letters, a statement of intent or a detailed résumé requested as needed.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Royal Roads University sets no single university-wide deadline: domestic and international applicants apply directly to the university through the same process, and every programme page checked shows one identical deadline for both. RRU consistently closes a programme's application exactly three calendar months before that programme's own intake start date — a September 2027 intake typically closes 7 June 2027 — though a few programmes (the Master of Global Management, for example) use a six-month lead instead. Each programme lists its own upcoming intakes, running from 2026 into 2028 depending on the programme, and RRU says it may still accept a late application if space and processing time remain, but it publishes no separate international deadline and no institution-wide equal-consideration or rolling policy. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
