Overview
The Environmental Assessment and Restoration diploma at Lethbridge Polytechnic is a two-year, on-campus programme covering the scientific, legal and technological skills used to assess and restore natural ecosystems. The 60-credit curriculum combines classroom instruction with fieldwork, addressing topics such as environmental impact assessment, ecological restoration techniques and relevant environmental regulation. Delivery is face-to-face on the main Lethbridge campus, with a single intake each September. Graduates are prepared for roles such as environmental technician, restoration technician and environmental monitoring assistant, working with government agencies, environmental consulting firms, and resource and agricultural industries. Transfer arrangements with partner institutions are available for graduates who wish to continue toward a related bachelor's degree, subject to each institution's own minimum-average requirements.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet Lethbridge Polytechnic's general admission requirements for polytechnic programs, plus this diploma's own prerequisites of Math 30-1 or 30-2, Biology 20, and Chemistry 20, or equivalents. From the 2027-2028 intake the program also requires English 30-1 or 30-2 (or equivalent) directly and asks all applicants to demonstrate English language proficiency. For non-native English speakers, the institution's general benchmarks apply: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE Academic 54, CAEL 60 overall (60 in Writing, 50 in all other bands), or Duolingo English Test 110.
