Overview
A research-intensive professional doctorate that pairs the methodological rigour of a PhD with an applied focus on the management problems practitioners actually face. Royal Roads delivers it in a blended format, with online study broken by short, intensive in-person residencies, so candidates can keep working while completing the degree. Research concentrates on applied and interdisciplinary management and organizational questions, positioning graduates for senior roles inside and beyond academia, including in for-profit, not-for-profit and government organizations. The university reports that more than half of students in the program receive funding support.

Admission Requirements: Admission requires a relevant master's degree from a recognized university, normally with a minimum 'B' (3.00/4.33) GPA; there is no flexible-admission pathway, but candidates must also show at least seven years of full-time relevant work experience, including five years at a management level, plus evidence of intellectual curiosity and independent-research capacity. Applicants submit official transcripts, three reference letters addressing intellectual curiosity, ethics and leadership, an initial three-to-five-page research proposal, a structured resume, and may be asked for a writing sample or an interview. English-language proficiency defers to Royal Roads' requirement for the Doctor of Business Administration: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with a minimum 6.5 in each band, or TOEFL iBT 100 overall with a minimum 26 in writing and 23 in listening, reading and speaking; the Duolingo English Test is not accepted for this program.
