Overview
This two-year diploma trains students in environmental stewardship through hands-on fieldwork, scientific research, and laboratory analysis. Coursework covers environmental microbiology, soil science, air quality, environmental chemistry, environmental management, and site assessment, with fieldwork involving the collection and analysis of water, soil, and air samples from rivers, streams, and various facilities. The program is delivered at the Prince of Wales Campus and is accredited by the Canadian Environmental Accreditation Commission of ECO Canada. Admission requires a Grade 12 credential or equivalent with a minimum of 70% in Grade 11 or 12 academic English and math and a minimum of 60% in Grade 11 or 12 academic chemistry, plus a resume; Grade 11 or 12 biology or environmental science is recommended but not required. Field trips require physical capability for activities such as walking on uneven terrain and lifting equipment.

Admission Requirements: Beyond Holland College's general full-time admission rule (Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or above the general level, a resume covering work, volunteer and extracurricular experience, and a high school transcript, with a post-secondary transcript added where relevant), the Environmental Applied Science Technology page requires a minimum of 70% in Grade 11 or 12 academic English and Grade 11 or 12 academic math, and a minimum of 60% in Grade 11 or 12 academic chemistry; Grade 11 or 12 biology or environmental science is recommended as an asset. The page notes that some field trips require physical exertion such as walking uphill and lifting, and recommends Tdap, Polio, and Hepatitis A and B vaccinations per Chief Public Health Office guidance. English is the language of instruction: applicants whose first language is not English demonstrate proficiency with IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6), TOEFL iBT 85, CAEL 60 (minimum 50 per band), PTE Academic 60, Duolingo English Test 120 (no section under 115) or Cambridge B2 First/C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 176 (no band below 169).
