Program details

Overview

This two-year diploma from SAIT specializes in restaurant management, combining classroom instruction with operational experience at SAIT's Highwood restaurant. Coursework covers front-of-house and back-of-house operations, inventory management and menu costing, restaurant space design, financial and accounting methods for the hospitality sector, guest-centric service, and industry technology tools, alongside broader hospitality competencies in sales, marketing and data-informed business strategy, in small class sizes. In the first semester, students complete WHMIS, food safety, ProServe and hospitality and tourism awareness certifications, and between the first and second year they complete a 400-hour internship at an industry worksite such as a hotel, restaurant, tour operator or resort. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. The program accepts international applicants but does not currently meet Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility requirements. Graduates may continue directly into SAIT's Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management for an additional two years of study. Beginning in the 2026/27 academic year, new applicants to the diploma apply through a multi-disciplinary stream rather than this standalone specialization.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants need at least 50% in Math 30-1 or Math 30-2, and at least 50% in English Language Arts 30-1 or 60% in English Language Arts 30-2.
