This apprenticeship, offered in person at SAIT's Main Campus or in a blended format combining Main Campus and online study, trains apprentices to repair and replace damaged motor vehicle structures, body parts, and interior and exterior finishes through the School of Transportation. It covers four specializations of differing length: Auto Body Prepper and Auto Body Refinisher (two 12-month periods each), Auto Body Repairer (three 12-month periods), and Auto Body Technician (four 12-month periods), the last combining all trade tasks with optional focus areas such as damage appraisal, frame straightening, surface preparation, sheet metal work, and refinishing. On-the-job training hours and classroom weeks vary by specialization and year. Graduates earn journeyperson status through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training; the Auto Body Technician specialization earns a diploma, while the others earn certificates. The program does not accept international applicants and requires Alberta residency and Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
