Trades - Apprenticeship in Plumber

This apprenticeship leads to journeyperson status through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training, plus an advanced diploma from SAIT, delivered in person at Main Campus over four one-year periods. Each period requires a minimum of 1,560 hours of on-the-job training alongside eight weeks of classroom instruction, with some intakes offering blended delivery combining on-campus classes and labs with online coursework. The first year shares common curriculum with SAIT's Gasfitter and Steamfitter apprentices before the plumbing-specific stream progresses from single-family residential systems in year one through increasingly complex multi-family and commercial systems by year four. Students must maintain at least 50% in each course with a 65% overall average, and pass provincial and Red Seal exams at 70%. A notable feature of the program is that graduates complete it holding two certifications, Plumber and Gasfitter Class B, which widens their employment options beyond plumbing alone. The program suits candidates who enjoy problem-solving and creative thinking, can work well independently or as part of a team, and have the physical stamina, agility, and mechanical aptitude the trade requires for measurement and estimation work. Graduates work as plumbers, gasfitters, and service technicians in residential, commercial, and institutional settings, and the Red Seal endorsement allows certified plumbers to work across Canada.
